The popularity of pirate metal has been rising, and Swashbuckle has thrown their hat into the ring as another formidable force in the genre. While many pirate metal bands tend to go for heavy-handed songs about mead, wenches, and rowdiness, Swashbuckle keeps the pirate influences a bit more subtle. Their second full-length release, and first for Nuclear Blast, is a surprisingly enjoyable disc with good thrash metal taking precedence over heavy pirate references.
